Artist in Residence: Nadine Schemmann

24. July 2025

Nadine Schemmann was Artist in Residence at Villa Arnica in the summer of 2025. During her stay, she created an artwork for the Villa, using fabrics and materials that reflect the dynamics and underlying perceptions of human encounters.

The artist translates situations and events, communication and interactions into colors and flowing forms. In doing so, she creates sculptural canvases that bulge, interact with fabrics and colors, and reveal what lies beneath. The course of the lines, the subtleties of the materials, the seams and the spaces between - all contribute to the whole. Just as in human interactions, there is always much more than what lies on the surface.

Nadine studied at the Cologne International School of Design and Berlin University of Arts. Her work has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including at the Museum Wiesbaden, the Kunstverein Dresden, the Kunsthalle Rostock, the Kjubh Kunstverein Cologne, Schlossgut Schwante, and STUDIO BERLIN (Berghain, Boros Foundation). She lives and works in Berlin, focusing her artistic practice primarily on textile painting, sculpture, and installations.

The canvas she created during her stay can be viewed in the entrance hall of Villa Arnica.
